Why I'm Running

I’m running for a seat on the city council because after living in Clyde Hill for 20 years, I want to give back. After some encouragement from current city council members, I decided to run.Over the last year, I’ve sat in on the budget process and attended the city meetings, asked questions, and “done the reading” to understand how things work. I’ll bring the same energy and “how can we do even better” approach that I brought to work at Microsoft for 20+ years and to start-ups for the last five years.

Clyde Hill is a wonderful place — improving feedback between the city and its residents would make it even better. The listening and communication skills I developed leading teams at Microsoft, working closely with engineering, legal, & finance professionals, have prepared me to do just that.As I listen to friends and neighbors, I hear interest in a safe, fenced, off-leash dog-park. We can make that and other substantive improvements happen while we continue to be financially responsible. My biggest surprise from last year's budget process is that Clyde Hill is holding ~$11 million — more than two years of operating budget. Considering how to treat this surplus deserves open discussion.I would love to sit down with you and listen to what you want for Clyde Hill, what issues you think are important for our city, and share some of what I’ve learned so far about how the local government improvement process actually works.
